Coming soon to the Gladius Collection…
We have taken the original coin and made it in solid brass and copper in a limited release.
One side represents a shield, etched is the Lambda. Ancient Spartans decorated their shields with Lambda, the Greek capital letter “L” as a symbol for Lacedaemon, the ancient Hellenic word for the Spartan City-State. The Lambda on the shield is illustrative of the light shining down on the field.
Sparta's unique society and military prowess have made it a subject of fascination in history and popular culture. The term "Spartan" is often used today to describe something simple, frugal, or characterised by discipline and self-restraint.
The Gladius is known in Latin as a 'sword'. This is how the term gladiator (male) and gladiatrix (female) was named. We are the modern day 'swordsman and woman'.
Etched on each challenge coin is the phrase 'Honor, fortitudo et perseverantia'. These are Latin words translated as honor, strength and loyalty. These values are close to my heart, therefore the coins represent who we are, could and should be.
You can connect with your challenge coin and interpret the value, according to how you feel. Your carry, your connection.
Raff.
The idea of honor was once the guiding principle of every aspiring gladiator. For the gladiator who possessed no material wealth, even his life was not his own and all he had was his self-respect. How he chose to live and to die in those final moments of his life, was the measure of his honor. His honor to himself, his comrads and to family were upheld.
'Fortitudo' carries the deeper meaning of strength that the gladiators embodied. A gladiator's strength was not only his ability to fight adversity, but his courage to find inner strength to support his comrades who fought by his side. The lion’s head is associated with the representation of strength. If the lion appears powerful to you, its presence can be interpreted as a positive representation of your self-confidence and personal power. As such, lions point to qualities of strength, courage and assertiveness.
The final coin will represent the value of loyalty, a word which has lost its true meaning over time. As we live in this modern world, we have become distracted and often forget where our loyalties lay. Therefore, my coin tags the Latin words 'honor fortitudo et perseverantia.' This translates to honor, integrity, virtue, loyalty, courage, strength. determination, perseverance and honesty. We should begin our journey to uphold these values.

EDC: What Does It Mean?
EDC, short for Every Day Carry, refers to the assortment of items that individuals consistently have on their person, typically stored in pockets, bags, or pouches. These are the essential items that you gather just before heading out, items you consider indispensable.
These are the things you find indispensable and carry with you daily, such as keys, wallet, phone, wristwatch, jewelry, pocket knife, and perhaps something for fidgeting, like a challenge coin – collectively referred to as your EDC, at least in my case.
Consider the generations before us, like your father or his father. What did they carry daily? My aim is to emphasize that we maintain a tradition of carrying essential items. These items are crucial tools for navigating the day, whether at work or during leisure activities.
Within our EDC community, sharing the intriguing items we carry is encouraged. This allows us to appreciate each other's choices and enjoy the diverse array of tools and gadgets. It's also an opportunity to convey that knives serve as tools, not weapons, and responsible adults comprehend this distinction.
Best regards,
Raff

Carrying EDC coins serves various purposes, extending beyond their practical utility. Here are some common reasons why people choose to carry these coins:
Symbolic Meaning
EDC coins, often referred to as challenge coins, can hold deep sentimental value. Members of the military, law enforcement, and other service-related fields often carry them to represent their affiliation with a particular unit or organization. These coins can symbolize camaraderie, pride, and shared experiences.
Memorabilia
Some individuals carry coins minted in the year of their birth or to commemorate significant life events like weddings, the birth of a child, graduations, or promotions. These coins become tokens of these special moments.
Inspirational Messages
Coins may feature proverbs, maxims, or sayings that hold personal significance. These messages can serve as sources of inspiration, motivation, or reminders of personal values.
Stress Relief and Distraction
EDC coins can serve as tactile tools for fidgeting, anxiety reduction, and stress relief. People may find comfort in the act of touching and manipulating the coin in their pocket, which can help alleviate nervous energy.
Decision-Making Aid
Some individuals use the act of flipping or spinning the coin as a decision-making aid. By assigning choices to different sides of the coin, they can make choices in a random and impartial manner.
Collectible and Aesthetic Value
Certain challenge coins are designed with intricate artwork, unique designs, or historical significance. Some collectors carry coins to showcase their appreciation for craftsmanship, aesthetics, or historical events.
Community and Bonding
Carrying EDC coins can foster a sense of belonging within a community of like-minded individuals who share a common interest in collecting and discussing these coins.
Ultimately, the reasons for carrying EDC coins are diverse and personal. Each individual may have their own motivations for including these coins as part of their everyday carry. Whether for practical reasons, sentimental value, stress relief, or aesthetic appreciation, the choice to carry EDC coins reflects an individual's unique preferences and needs.
